Our September meeting was largely given over to a panel discussion of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s plan to revamp zoning in New York City to accommodate “affordable” housing. The consensus is: beware of what will happen to your neighborhood.
ANNUAL COLUMBUS DAY DINNER
THURSDAY OCT. 1, 2015 at 7:30 PM
Nancy’s Restaurant
25541 Jericho Tpke, Floral Park, NY 11001
Our usual meeting hall, the Knights of Columbus on Union Turnpike, is not available for our October meeting date of the first Thursday of the month. We are relocating for this meeting only, to Nancy’s Restaurant at 255-41 Jericho Turnpike in Floral Park, NY. This block is actually in Queens. There is parking available across the street in a lot operated by Floral Park Village.
We’ve established a tradition of offering an optional dinner at our October meeting in honor of Columbus Day. Since we can’t offer the dinner at the Knights of Columbus, we’ve transferred our meeting to Nancy’s Restaurant. We are serving a four-course dinner including soda, coffee/tea, tax, and tip for just $40 per person. You do not have to purchase the dinner to attend the meeting, but those attending for the meeting only, please be advised there will be no coffee/cake/soda served. There is a cash bar. There are nine options to choose from for your choice of entree:
**CONCANNON CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS OFFICIALLY OPEN**
** GRAND OPENING PARTY A HUGE SUCCESS**

On the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attack on our nation on Sept 11, 2001, we pause to reflect on our fallen heroes and our fellow American citizens who perished on that fateful day. In the aftermath of that national tragedy, we all came together as one nation under our flag. We will never forget!

Our city is in peril and we need a change of course. This epic battle will play out on November 3rd when voters make their feelings known at the ballot box. We can change the dangerous direction our city is headed with a strong message, “Vote Republican” in the General Election.

Resident Michelle Knowles was dubious.
“I went in and asked ‘How much for a facial?’” Knowles said. “They said ‘No, no, no facial.’”

“The man said ‘Only massage,’” she said.
Residents gathered outside the spa on Monday, calling for the city to take action against between five and seven such establishments they say have opened nearby in recent months.
Joe Concannon, who is running for the Republicans in the 23rd Council District special election in the fall, came out to support them. The retired NYPD captain said he is certain police are investigating the matter.
Bur he also said at least three other city agencies could have acted to shut them down, calling the NYPD the agency of last resort.
He said Consumer Affairs could act on the fact that there is not a required list of services and prices inside; that the Department of Buildings or Health and Mental Hygiene likely could find enough violations.
“This is another quality-of-life issue in which Mayor de Blasio has let us down,” Concannon said. He added that the state’s Department of State has the authority to check for the license of each masseuse in a business.
