U.S. Federal Courts to NYC: Go To Hell

New York, Friday, August 13, 2013 – City Council candidate, Joseph Concannon, District #23, slammed the ruling of U.S. District Judge Shira Scheindlin that the stop, question and frisk policy of the New York Police Department violated the constitutional rights of minorities in the city. To fix this, she intends to designate an outside lawyer to monitor the NYPD’s compliance with the Constitution.

Last Thursday, Concannon, a retired police captain, declared his candidacy on the steps of City Hall with the endorsement of PBA President Pat Lynch and all New York State law enforcement unions based upon his stance against the City Council’s anti-police legislation, the Community Safety Act. Today, he declared that this federal judge just told New York City to go to hell. The judge’s reckless decision should be a call to arms for all New Yorkers who refuse to go back to the bad old days of rampant crime and chaos when people were afraid to go out at night and parents were putting their children to sleep in bathtubs.

Concannon, who has dedicated over 30 years of his life to the security and protection of our nation, state and city in the NYPD and the Giuliani administration, stated:

“The NYPD is the best crime fighting police department in our nation. Limousine liberals hiding behind the federal bench are going to hurt those most in need. Fight back New York! This is a nation of the people. Raise Your Voices and Be Heard!”

Concannon blasted Judge Scheindlin’s ruling that police officers have been systematically stopping innocent people without any objective reason to suspect them of wrongdoing and for accusing New York’s Finest of practicing a “policy of indirect racial profiling” by utilizing the crime fighting tactic stop, question and frisk.

Concannon said:

“this thoughtless decision is coming from an out of touch ideologue who has no understanding of policing and the crime fighting tactics that made NYC the safest major city in the nation. Her decision is pure hogwash. Police officers do not engage in racial profiling. They stop and question individuals about whom they have reasonable suspicion. Stop, question and frisk is a lawful practice, upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court decision, Terry v. Ohio. It is an extensively used pro-active policing method that is authorized by New York State Criminal Procedure Law and the New York State Constitution.”

Joe Concannon’s campaign slogan is “Support Your Local Police”. It will be emblazoned on every sign, banner and bumper sticker.  He has been circulating petitions for the Reform Party ballot line, a new anti-corruption, pro-law enforcement party, which cuts across all party lines and will resonate with all the voters who have lost faith in our political system and especially with the grievance peddlers like his opponent incumbent Councilman Mark Weprin who is demagoguing this issue to curry favor with fellow Councilmembers in order to win the race for Council Speaker.
