Who Speaks for Us?

Rally Speech by NYPD Captain Joseph Concannon (Ret.)

Queens rally- Joe

Hi, I’m Captain Joseph Concannon. Were here today, because we support Public Safety, and we Support Our Police! We’re here today to take a stand, to let the world know, that the vast, vast majority of New Yorkers – you – me, people from all different walks of life, from all over Queens County, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Long Island, people who will be speaking today, who represent nearly every civic, ethnic, religious and veterans group; we are all here today to let the Mayor of the City of New York, the City Council, our State and Federal officials, and the world, know that we New Yorkers support our police, we trust our police, and we thank our police officers, for keeping us safe and secure!

I ask you “Who speaks for us?” Who speaks for you; who speaks for me? WHO SPEAKS FOR US? Who speaks for the vast majority of New Yorkers; people who live here, who work here,  study here, and raise families here. Who speaks for the police officers and firefighters, who put their lives on the line every day to protect us? Does the Mayor, the City Council, or some State and Federal Officials truly speak for us? We hear lots of dangerous rhetoric, which can lead to division and violence, rather than respect and unity. OUR voices must be heard!

We’re here today, united as New Yorkers, together as Americans, citizens of the world. Public safety is the cornerstone of civilization. Law and Order is the very fabric of society, whether you live in New York City, Main Street, USA or Paris, France. The vivid images of this past week has shown us the valor, courage and bravery of Law Enforcement professionals from around the world. My voice, and your voice, will be OUR voice from Queens County, NY to Paris, France, WE SUPPORT OUR POLICE!
