Since the defeat of Joe Crowley by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Queens has become the epicenter for socialist politicians in the country.  That title used to be held by Bernie Sanders’ Vermont or Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco, but those radicals are aging out of the Democratic Party, and being replaced with far more leftist activists.  Now more than ever, it is time for the Republicans of Queens to fight back.

With the loss of Tiffany Caban in the Queens DA Democratic Primary, The Queens County GOP believes they dodged a bullet.  The Primary was a nailbiter, six long weeks of counting and recounting ballots.  In the end, the far-left socialist Caban conceded to Queens Borough President Melinda Katz.  Viewed as a moderate, Katz was considered the “lesser of two evils” to the Ocasio-Cortez, Sanders, Warren, and New York Times-backed Caban.  However, her victory speech had some keywords that indicate that she’s worried about how narrow her 55 vote victory was.

Katz promised reforms to the DA office, including the end of cash bail.  As Caban stated in her concession speech, she successfully pulled the Democratic Party to the left in Queens.  She didn’t do it alone.  A leftist group called the 5Boro Defenders led the charge during the primary, having each of the seven candidates fill out a questionnaire, and then grading the candidates on the answers.  The questionnaire was more concerned about social justice than actual justice, and Caban walked away with an A minus and their endorsement.  Katz received a C, but is still parroting their talking points.

5Boro Defenders are not the only group dedicated to pulling the Democrats to the left.  The Justice Democrats, the group that found and trained Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, views New York City as fertile ground for socialist politicians to join the ranks of the Democratic Party.  They backed other leftist members of Congress in 2018 such as Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Presley.  They are trying to replicate their success in Ocasio-Cortez’s neighboring district by primarying longtime Democrat Representative Eliot Engel.

Queens constituents are sick of the socialist policies.  In her own 14th District, Ocasio-Cortez is polling at an abysmal 21% favorability.  11% of poll respondents say that she has their best interests in mind, and only 13% say they would vote to reelect her.

The Queens GOP has an opportunity to build a conservative movement in a left-wing city.  The residents of Queens are hard-working, family-oriented, and want a safe neighborhood for their children.  They don’t want high taxes, or gun violence, or illegal immigrants taking their blue-collar jobs.  They are thriving in the Trump economy.  Queens GOP needs to make this case.

This will not be an easy task.  Queens has not elected a Republican representative to Congress since Bob Turner in 2011.  It will be a hard-fought road.  The road, however, is worth fighting on.  After the 2018 elections, New York has fallen under one-party rule.  The Democratic legislature has yielded abortions until birth, drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, and climate legislation that will bankrupt the state.  People are leaving the state in droves because of the high taxes and decreased quality of life, and the Democrats in Albany are promising more of this when their next legislative session begins.

Queens GOP must do everything they can to protect their communities.  It’s time to reach out to the communities that don’t vote Republican and convince them that we have their best interests at heart.  It’s time to convince people that a socialist agenda will ruin their communities and their families.  It’s time to show Albany and Washington, D.C. that every district where conservatives live is up for grabs.

The nation looked in awe at Queens when a socialist won.  Imagine the waves that will occur when a conservative does.
