Vote for Rob Astorino

This is a letter from Club member Fred Bedell,  sent to local and regional newspapers regarding the “Meet Rob Astorino” event on Monday June 30th.

Astorino mtg-7-smI had the privilege to attend a meeting of the Republican club of Queens Village held at St. Anne’s Knights of Columbus hall in Glen Oaks Village, on June 30th. The guest speaker was Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, who spoke why he wants to be the next governor of this great state of New York.

WSJ-1A case of racial engineering that Obama wants to take nationwide.

This is an excellent editorial in this morning’s Wall Street Journal detailing Rob Astorino’s  fight against the Federal Government, as well as Andrew Cuomo’s attempt to make race an issue in this campaign. Please pass it along and share with all your friends.

Residents of the northern New York City suburbs were recently treated to a TV ad invoking images of the Jim Crow South and claiming that Westchester County executive Rob Astorino has “repeatedly violated anti-discrimination laws for years.” None of the ad is true, but it does reveal some important political news with national implications.

Ending the Cycle of Dependency in NYC

The neediest of society who now find themselves within grasp of New York City social services don’t need a cattle car to be herded from cage to cage as much as they need a job and a vibrant local economy in which they can earn back their self respect.

The City of New York is continuing the cycle of dependency in establishing an outpost for “the homeless” at the Pan American Hotel in Central Queens, NY. The neediest of society who now find themselves within grasp of New York City social services don’t need a cattle car to be herded from cage to cage as much as they need a job and a vibrant local economy in which they can earn back their self respect.

The Other Forgotten Heroes of 9/11

There were approximately 40,000 responders who came to ground zero the day of and the days, weeks, and months following the attacks of 9/11. These too often unremembered heroes included those in uniform—police officers, correction officers, firefighters, EMS workers, military personnel—and also civilian responders—electricians, plumbers, maintenance workers, demolition operators, Red Cross volunteers, and so many others.

“My son didn’t die on 9/11, but it was 9/11 that eventually killed him,” said Stephen Grossman when I spoke with him recently at the 9/11 Responders Remembered Park located in the town of Nesconset in Suffolk County, N.Y.

The late son he remembered was named Robert Grossman. Robert, I learned, was a NYC police officer assigned to the 28th Precinct in Harlem—a precinct in which he served since the day after he graduated from the NY Police Academy in February 1994 until the day in April 2006 that his illness forced him to leave the job and eventually resulted in his death on Oct. 9, 2009, at the age of 41.
