We Must End the Slavery of One-Party Rule

We Must End the Slavery of One-Party Rule

By Phil Orenstein

We need a two-party system in NYC and cities across America, otherwise with one political party controlling black and disadvantaged communities, their lives and destinies, they are left bereft of choices, deprived of freedom. Freedom is choice, and without it, you are living in slavery. The Democrat Party and urban media has kept them beaten down in slavery. They have become slaves to one party. We must end the slavery of one-party rule.

The latest of the cataclysmic social events of the past few months is the devastating summer crime wave which has started hitting hard in our black communities. NYC has seen dozens of recent shootings, and after pressure to defund the police, the plainclothes anti-crime unit was disbanded in mid-June and we are now witnessing the biggest spike in gun violence and murders in decades.

In his column “Time for Republicans to Give Black Voters a Real Choice” Robert Hornak says that many center-right folks have missed the point when offering the facts to explain away the “pain that real people peacefully protesting are feeling.” While the roots of the historical problem in black communities is deeper than he suggests, it’s a good thing he’s calling for “the larger conversation we need to have on race relations in America.”

This larger conversation presents us with a positive opportunity to work with the black community and welcome them into the Republican Party, the Party of freedom, opportunity, law and order, prosperity, and choice. However, we don’t want to use the language of the extreme left such as “systemic racism” which invariably points the narrative to Republicans and police which couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s a smoke screen, covering up the real problems.

Additionally, we understand the author’s intent to use this as a positive opportunity to work with the Black community and welcome them into the Republican Party. However, a rebuttal will be coming soon on the deep-rooted historical problem in Black and minority communities in cities across American, and offer a solution based on Republican principles.

In recent days many people whose politics lean center-right have been trying to give “the facts” on racism in America. This completely misses the point and is nothing more than a distraction from the need to address a real and very serious problem and from the larger conversation we need to have on race relations in America.

Republicans should immediately please stop. And listen. Listen to the pain that real people peacefully protesting are experiencing. Do not allow the small group of violent thugs, looters and Marxist agitators hijack this very real crises and change the debate to the one they want to have, with all blame, accusations, and no solutions. Don’t take the bait from those who seek to profit from further dividing America.

There are many ways to parse the numbers if you want to examine race and inequality. You can also debate whether it is systemic racism or something else. But at least we should all agree, putting politics aside for just a minute, that there are problems unique to Black America and something real and constructive needs to be done to solve this systemic problem.

Cuomo Searching For Scapegoats To Blame For His Deadly Coronavirus Order As 10,000+ Nursing-Home Patients Have Lost Lives To COVID-19

NEW YORK, NY – When this past March 25th Governor Andrew Cuomo’s New York State Department of Health (NYSDH) issued an official order requiring nursing homes admit patients infected with the coronavirus, many of the 19.4 million citizens of New York State probably understood that the governor was a man unafraid to exercise the power of his high executive office in the name of public health.

However, as many of these same New Yorkers also soon later learned, that order proved to be a death sentence for the estimated 11,000- 12,000 nursing home patients and approximately 500 nursing home employees who died from the infection. Still, Cuomo blamed others for this tragedy.

The person Cuomo first blamed was President Trump. Referring to a March 13th guideline issued by Trump Administration’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which recommended that nursing homes accept patients coming from hospitals treating coronavirus patients, Cuomo at a later press conference stated, “New York followed the president’s agencies’ guidance. What New York did was follow what the Republican Administration said to do.”

Missing from Cuomo’s blame Trump thesis are four burdensome facts. The first is that Trump’s CDC made it clear that nursing homes were not required (contrary to Cuomo’s bizarre interpretation of their written guidelines) to admit coronavirus patients. Rather, the CDC recommended only that nursing homes not discriminate against those non-coronavirus patients who had been originally sent by hospitals who are caring for patients with that awful disease. It remains unclear why the governor was unable to understand this clear and important distinction.

WHY do Police Matter?

WHY do Police Matter?

Have you forgotten the old T-shirts, caps, and coffee mugs from the aftermath of 9/11 that said, “We Will Never Forget?” This is an open letter to our elected officials, our union leaders, business leaders, and our religious and civic leaders from concerned citizens of New York City. We the people of New York City have not forgotten. Have you?

We have not forgotten…

  • The NYPD, for the last 25 years have made New York City the safest big city in America, allowing us to thrive and prosper.
  • On the day of the terrorist attacks on 9/11 the officers of the NYPD along with all first responders, were willing to give up their lives to save people they didn’t know, rushing into the burning towers of the World Trade Center.
  • On the nights following 9/11 the NYPD protected all neighborhoods and all houses of worship including mosques.
  • In the years that followed, they protected us from catastrophic terrorist attacks. Some that we didn’t even hear about, were prevented.
  • When we were battered by superstorm Sandy, the NYPD were outside responding to one of the worst natural disasters ever to hit our region, while we were inside worried and frightened.
  • We all mourned when two of New York’s Finest, Police Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, were shot at point-blank range, while sitting in their patrol car, by an evil assassin.
  • Just a month ago we were out every night at 7 pm to salute and praise our heroic first responders including NYPD in the fearless fight against the terrible virus.
  • The NYPD is made up of all of US. An attack on them, is an attack on US.

They are our neighbors, our relatives, our friends, parents, sons, and daughters. They shop at the same stores, they frequent the same restaurants, attend the same schools and churches. They run athletic programs and coach sports teams for disadvantaged youth (PAL). They operate playstreets for our children, and after-school programs and summer camps. They visit our High Schools to play basketball and volleyball with our kids.

All too often we have seen our civic, religious, business, and political leaders who have shown weakness, self-interest, or are pandering to the mob. We must all reject the violent mob who loot and destroy, and throw bricks, frozen water bottles, and Molotov cocktails at our police. We must reject the mindless mob who hurl vile and dangerous epithets at our police in their spoken and written words. We must reject the irresponsible mob who ignore the pandemic safeguards and can infect the police with the virus to spread amongst their families, friends and then to all of us.

The police take an oath of office similar to the oath of all of our elected representatives, to uphold the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of New York, the Charter of the City of New York, and to protect the people from all enemies foreign and domestic. In the hallways of police precincts across NYC, throughout NY State, and in station houses across the United States, the debate over how to protect citizen’s rights and enforce the laws is an ongoing daily struggle. Police officers understand the delicate balance between enforcement of the law and upholding the constitutional rights of every citizen.

We are one city united. The vast majority of New Yorkers respect our police, are grateful for our police and even love our police. They are us.

Where do you stand?
