AOC Education Town Hall Draws Asian Protests

Attack on Academic Merit Seen as Attack on Opportunity

On March 16, 2019, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez starred in a Jackson Heights education town hall meeting. While it was formally organized by Jackson Heights People for Public Schools, AOC was the highlight and the reason most attendees showed up.  Many radical  progressive education proposals were presented, e.g., stop suspensions, eliminate standardized testing, remove white teachers.

During the town hall several speakers criticized the SHSAT (Specialized High School Admissions Test). The SHSAT is an objective and merit based test used as the sole admissions criteria for the  Specialized High School including Stuyvesant, Bronx Science and Brooklyn Tech are among the best high schools in the country. In recent years, Mayor de Blasio has been critical  that the majority of students admitted to the  Specialized High Schools are Asian and few are Black and Hispanic.

The SHSAT criticisms elicited raucous protests from a group of vocal Asians parents. These Asians parents held up signs which read “Anti SHSAT = Anti Asian”, “Equity! A Code Word for Anti Asian” and “Stop Progressive Asian Racism”. Many of the AOC acolytes seem dumbfounded by the ferocity of the Asian parents who feel the SHSAT is a opportunity to achieve the America dream and feel their merit based culture is under attack by progressives. At one point a panelist said the SHSAT was anti immigrant, causing one protester to begin shouting in broken English, severely undermining the panelist’s argument.

Yesterday, the SHSAT results were released and Mayor de Blasio and his progressive followers instead of  celebrating the achievement of hard working students have used it as a opportunity to engage in further racial division.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day 2019

Heroes walking among us

By Joseph Concannon

A Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to one and all!  Today I remember and hold deeply in thought and pray for the life of a good friend, Bernadette Ferguson.  Bernadette is showing the courage and persistence of our patron saint of Ireland.   Saint Patrick, born in Roman Britain, was kidnapped by Irish pirates at age 14 and made a slave in the home of druids and pagans in Ireland.  Despite his circumstances, Saint Patrick courageously persisted though circumstances which were challenging to say the very least.  Skipping the trials and triumphs of Saint Patrick, today he stands out as one of the most famous saints in the world.

Bernadette with Danny McQueeney of the Knights of Columbus

Bernadette Ferguson is a current member of our club and a regular at our monthly meetings.  Bernadette is a proud Republican through and through.  Almost a year ago, my friend Bernadette was involved in an auto accident not too far from her home here in Bellerose, NY.  Anyone viewing the crash scene would have been amazed to learn that Bernadette was still alive.  By August, months after the accident, Bernadette’s brother Patrick included the undersigned, and other club members, family friends in her updates and the daily challenges.  Bernadette is a fighter, a strong woman of strong Catholic faith.   We all pray for her full recovery, and to welcome her back to an independent life.

Saint Patrick and Bernadette both suffered many challenges.  Saint Patrick’s started at a very young age and Bernadette as well with health issues.  Both are tremendously courageous and stubbornly persistent.  For those of us who are Irish we’d have it no other way!  Bernadette is fighting for life every day and for the improved quality of her life.  Patrick, Bernadette’s brother, smiles from ear to ear every time he sees her and reports back to us.  Bernadette is always surrounded by a family of deep love and compassion.  Bernadette’s friends from Astoria keep tabs on her and talk to us upon visits just to let us know it’s a long road but Bernadette is fighting!

The shamrock is a symbol of the Trinity (The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit) in the Catholic faith.  The shamrock is often used to illustrate the Trinity.  The shamrock is a three-leaf plant.  Today, we look for the four-leaf shamrock which is in Irish folklore a symbol of Irish luck.  We wish to extend to Bernadette and her family near and far the luck of the Irish as she toils each day with the challenges to reclaim her health and brighten all our days with her wonderful humor and a great smile.

For Bernadette in the name of Saint Patrick we pray:

“Christ be within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ inquired, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.”

A heartfelt Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all in our club, families and friends.  Our political challenges today pale in the face of what Saint Patrick and today’s modern-day heroes just like Bernadette Ferguson face every day.  Please do remember, all politics is local and what you do today will count for years to come.  Elections have consequences and voting matters.

Maybe Now’s The Time To Change Party Affiliation

By Howard Neiman, Ph.D.
As published in Queens Jewish Link, March 6, 2019

The time has come to be gently frank.

In the old world, prior to the overt embrace of anti-Semitism by a faction within the Democratic Party, prior to the adoption of infanticide as abortion, prior to the championing of violent criminals and the arbitrary enforcement of laws by power elites, the common wisdom among baby boomers was: You know, I really don’t vote Democrat anymore, but I’ll stay with my stale Democratic affiliation in order to sabotage them up and choose the worst candidates in the Democratic primary.

Like a sudden blast of arctic cold, Democrat reality slaps our faces hard. This old Dem affiliation wisdom cracked and splintered in the blast. It always was and now for sure is a failed strategy; just see the Democratic Party take its hard swing to the extreme left.

So, it is now more important than ever to maintain a party affiliation that reflects your true values, because in 2020 your true values will matter more than ever.

The Republican Primary in 2020 may deliver the difference between an authentic Republican candidate and a pseudo-Republican (aka “RINO” – “Republican in name only”) candidate.

The Republican Primary in 2020 may deliver the difference between bold support for your reality-based conservative values and timid support for those values.

The Republican Primary in 2020 may deliver the difference between unshakeable support for the US-Israel relationship or wavering support for it.

My friends know that I support President Trump and believe, thus far, that he is the most staunch, courageous supporter of my pragmatic compassionate conservative values and of a close US-Israel relationship in American history.

But I look back with utter frustration at the overall failure of will in the Republican-dominated Congress prior to 2016 and to the inconsistent support President Trump still gets from Republicans. That leaves open the unsettling possibility that, in 2020, we’ll see a resurgence of overly compromising Republicans wishing to oppose President Trump in the primary.

If you want to have a say in that 2020 race, when our values are being shredded by the left, if you want to have a say in the Republican Party and who the Republicans choose to run against God-knows-which Democrat, now is the time to change your party affiliationor to register as a first-time Republican, because it takes a full election cycle for the change to go into effect – which is why now is the time to register.

Here is a link to New York’s voter registration form: elections.ny.gov/NYSBOE/Download/voting/voteform

Print it out, complete it, and follow the mailing or filing directions.

It is simple. It is vital.

Maybe, maybe now’s the time to change party affiliation.
