SUMMARY:PRESS CONFERENCE FOR NATIONAL POLICE WEEK VIGILS
DESCRIPTION:Candlelight Vigil for National Police Week\nPRESS CONFERENCE & ANNOUNCEMENT\nMONDAY MAY 4\, 2015 – 12:00 NOON\nNYPD 105TH PRECINCT\n92-08 222ND ST.\nQUEENS VILLAGE\, NY 11428\nCLICK HERE FOR CANDLELIGHT VIGIL INSTRUCTIONS\n \nNational Police Week\, occurring the second week of May\, is a week-long reflection on those police officers who have fallen in the line of duty. During 2014\, 117 police officers nation-wide died in the line of duty. \nFormer NYPD Captain Joseph Concannon\, founder and president of Square Deal Committee\, Inc.\, a new non-profit organization in formation\, is proposing that each Police Precinct in NYC\, including Police Service Areas as well as Transit Commands\, hold their own Candlelight Vigil. Concannon is calling on volunteers\, community residents and civic leaders to wear blue and assemble at 8:30 PM on May 13th in front of your local precinct\, in coordination with the nationwide observance for National Police Week. At 9 PM sharp everyone will light their candles and host a moment of silence. \nThe Square Deal Committee staff has been reaching out to precinct commanders\, community affairs personnel as well as precinct council presidents in order to improve awareness of this effort. Starting this year we hope that this police vigil will become an annual staple of New York City community events in solemn memory of our fallen officers. \nTHE HISTORY\nIn 1962\, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day\, and the calendar week in which May 15 falls\, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962\, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. \nThis year National Police Week starts on May 10th through May 16th with the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund being the principle organizer. The activities for National Police Week are generally centered in Washington DC\, hosted by the Fraternal Order of Police and C.O.P.S. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund hosts the annual Candlelight Vigil on May 13th this year. The FOP hosts activities at our Nation’s Capital and C.O.P.S. hosts the Police Survivors Conference. \nNational Police Week\nSquare Deal Committee\, Inc.\nINSTRUCTIONS FOR MAY 13 VIGIL

SUMMARY:CLUB MEETING CANCELLED: THURSDAY MAY 7
DESCRIPTION:MEMBER ALERT: CLUB MEETING POSTPONED \nDue to some unprecedented circumstances\, we are postponing the General Club Meeting scheduled for Thursday\, May 7th. The meeting will be rescheduled for our regular meeting night on June 4th. The topic and format will be the same focusing on Energy and the Environment. \n\nNEXT GENERAL CLUB MEETING: THURSDAY MAY 7\, 2015 at 7:30 PM \nPUBLIC FORUM: ENERGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT \nAre the Lights Going Out on New York?\nThis forum will shed light on New York State Energy and\nEnvironmental policy issues that have kept New Yorkers in the dark. \nGuest Speaker: Doug Lee\nComputer systems management professional. Frequent speaker on energy and environmental issues and outspoken advocate for farmers and rural communities in NYS. Former Republican State Assembly candidate. \nGuest Speaker: Maureen Koetz\nPrincipal Partner in Koetz and Duncan LLC. Environmental Counsel for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Environmental Policy Director for the Nuclear Energy Institute. Represented the nuclear industry at the Kyoto Climate Change Conference. Former Republican State Assembly candidate. \nAdditional biographical information on our speakers can be found below. \nMEETING AT: Knights of Columbus – St. Anne’s Council\n263-15 Union Turnpike\, Glen Oaks\, NY 11004\n——————————————————————————– \nARE THE LIGHTS GOING OUT ON NEW YORK? \nNew York State has significant deposits of natural gas. Gas development would create jobs\, lower taxes and stimulate the economy for the entire state. While gas development using hydraulic fracturing has been proven to be safe\, special interest groups have succeeded in effecting a state-wide ban. \nSolar energy has been touted as a clean alternative to natural gas. Despite significant public subsidies\, the technology is barely producing the same amount of energy used in its own production\, while producing significant pollution as part of its manufacturing process. Oblivious to the increased pollution\, Albany is mandating massive conversion of the state’s power \ngrid to renewables like solar\, at significant cost to tax payers. Governor Cuomo’s fracking ban and push to shut down Indian Point will continue to drive up our electric bills\, kill off jobs\, businesses and economic recovery. This forum will shed light on the environmental and political issues impacting energy development. \n——————————————————————————– \nDOUG LEE \nDoug Lee is a frequent speaker on energy and environmental issues. A nature lover\, Doug enjoys hiking in the Catskills and fishing on Long Island. He is for responsible development of the State’s rich natural resources with the dual goals of economic development and environmental conservation. He worked closely with government and academic institutions in New York and Pennsylvania to study the environmental impact of various energy sources. He lectured on energy matters at the Joint Landowners Coalition of NY\, and gave a seminar on solar energy pollution to the faculty and graduate students of Cornell University. He is an outspoken advocate for farmers and rural communities in the State\, and organized a 1\,000 person rally to defend landowner rights. A computer systems management professional\, Doug has a BS in biology and a MBA in Accounting. He also had his first attempt in politics last year running for the State Assembly as a Republican candidate in the 16th Assembly District in Northwestern Nassau. \n  \n——————————————————————————–\nMAUREEN KOETZ \nMaureen T. Koetz is the Principal Partner in Koetz and Duncan LLC\, providing strategic\nadvice and consultation on sustainability risk and value management using innovative and first-mover capabilities in risk analytics\, infrastructure asset management\, and green procurement. \nPrior to forming Koetz and Duncan\, Ms. Koetz served as a Presidential appointee as both the Acting Assistant Secretary\, and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Installations\, Environment\, and Logistics of the United States Air Force\, managing a 10 million acre/$200 billion asset portfolio in support of sustainable operations for the largest energy consumer in the federal government. Her responsibilities included energy acquisition policy\, natural capital management\, energy efficiency (including maintenance policy)\, installation energy recovery\, and operational energy programming. Under her leadership\, the Air Force was the largest renewable energy purchaser in the nation. \nMs. Koetz has also held positions as Environmental Counsel for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee\, and Counsel to U.S. Senator Pete Domenici\, covering issues such as electricity restructuring\, Department of Energy programming\, and federal capital extraction policy. As Environmental Policy Director for the Nuclear Energy Institute\, she developed the first analytic models for “Emissions Avoidance\,” the results of which have remained a key management and policy element supporting Nuclear: the Clean Air Energy. She has represented the nuclear industry at the Kyoto Climate Change Conference\, multiple other international conventions\, and the United Nations Council on Sustainable Development. \nMs. Koetz is an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Finance at NYU-Poly and a veteran of active duty service with the U.S. Navy\, as well as a published author in several areas related to sustainability\, and a frequent speaker on public and private enterprise sustainability\, including the key role of natural capital in sourcing energy. \nMs. Koetz has a Juris Doctor from the Washington College of Law at American University\, a Bachelor of Arts degree from the American University\, and is a member of the Bar of the State of New York. She is a former Republican State Assembly candidate runing in the 65th District in Lower Manhattan.

SUMMARY:JOIN US AS OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES PAY TRIBUTE AND MOURN THE LOSS OF NYPD OFFICER BRIAN MOORE & SHOW SUPPORT FOR THE NYPD
DESCRIPTION:JOIN US AS OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES PAY TRIBUTE AND MOURN THE LOSS OF NYPD OFFICER BRIAN MOORE & SHOW SUPPORT FOR THE NYPD. \nA group of local community civic organizations have planned a memorial ceremony for the loss of Police Officer Brian Moore who was shot on May 2 while on duty. He was only 25 years old and served 5 years on the NYPD during which time he distinguished himself as an excellent police officer. While it is always difficult to deal with the murder of a police officer\, it is perhaps tougher for us in this case because Officer Moore protected us in our own precinct. \nWe will gather to pay tribute to the loss of this young man and to show our community support for our Precinct and the NYPD. \nIt Is Being Organized By Our Local Civic Associations and \nHosted by Glen Oaks Village at \nTribute Triangle Park (Corner of 75th Avenue & Little Neck Parkway) \nSaturday\, May 16\, 2015 at 1:00 PM \nWe expect a large turnout of local residents\, civic leaders\, elected officials and members of the NYPD. We will have limited seating set up and some reserved for seniors. Bring a lawn chair for yourself. \nMike Castellano; President\, Lost Community Civic Association (718 ) 347 4696 \nBob Friedrich: Glen Oaks Village \nBring a memorial candle or a blue ribbon

SUMMARY:Help Adam Sackowitz Win the School Board Election!!
DESCRIPTION:Adam Sackowitz has began running for the East Meadow School Board seat since last August and between now and then he has attended dozens of events in the district and knocked on nearly 3\,000 doors. Adam walks every single day hitting between 60 houses to over 200 houses a day depending upon his work schedule. Between 2\,000-4\,000 individuals will vote in the election. He wishes to thank the Queens Village Republican Club for our support. \nThe election is now only days away\, Tuesday\, May 19th. Adam is asking for our help on Election Day to hand out his literature at the poll sites. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and there are 5 polling locations. Many people who know nothing about the election will vote because they received a mailer from the school district or to attend their child’s art show which is held that same night. Having someone at each polling place handing out literature can swing the election as much as 10-15 POINTS! \nIf you are available for any number of hours on Tuesday May 19th please fill out the online form and Adam’s campaign will contact you. \nCLICK HERE TO FILL OUT ONLINE FORM \nThank you!! \nhttp://adamsackowitz.com/
