New York Values

Our annual Lincoln Dinners are the glorious milestone events that infuse the lifeblood of conservative principles into the hearts and minds of fellow Republicans and all New Yorkers.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has been taking a lot of flak recently for bashing “New York values.” Of course he was not referring to New Yorkers who cherish conservative values, though we are in the minority in New York City. Cruz explained that “everyone understands that the values in NYC are socially liberal, pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion and focus around money and the media,” to distinguish them from “Iowa values.”

But what exactly are these stereotypical “New York values?” There is no such monolithic label for the citizens of such a vivacious city in a state of flux, with hearts and minds constantly changing, a city that has seen such great Republican mayors as Fiorello La Guardia and more recently Rudy Giuliani, whose policies and bold leadership brought a renaissance to NYC making it the safest large city in America. Queens was once a vast Republican stronghold, with a Republican Borough President and dozens of Republican elected officials. Everyone who owned a home or a business was enrolled in the Republican Party. Times have changed, but Queens Village Republicans have not. In fact we were out in force two years ago speaking out loud at Queens Borough Hall when King Andrew Cuomo said that conservatives are not welcome in NY, and now Cuomo has the audacity to accuse Cruz of dividing and demonizing people.

We have invited Ted Cruz to be the keynote speaker for our upcoming Lincoln Dinner on February 28th, so he can see that we will stand and fight until the alleged “New York values” change into rock-solid conservative and traditional American values. We will bring back the glorious days of an ascendant Republican Party in Queens and New York. Our annual Lincoln Dinners are the glorious milestone events that infuse the lifeblood of conservative principles into the hearts and minds of fellow Republicans and all New Yorkers.

Dan Bongino, a former NYPD officer and United States Secret Service agent who worked for three presidents, was honored as the American Patriot of the Year at a past Lincoln Dinner. Upon receiving his prestigious award, he said, “the fight is here.” He encouraged us to stay in New York and fight for our liberties and values which are slowly being dissipated day by day. He said, “If you think you’re making a statement of winning some kind of political battle by moving to Texas, you’re wrong!” The liberal Democrats want nothing more than for Republicans to leave New York for more conservative pastures.  They would love for us to evacuate every single blue state which they would then use as a launching ground to take the next one.  He urged us to stand and fight for New York as the Patriots did in the Revolutionary War. “Every generation had its fight.” Our fight right now is against the “soft tyranny of a growing bureaucracy at your expense.” He declared, “Action changes the world. Talk is cheap” and urged us to “get out the vote, show up; it matters; it’s a fight worth having!”

Col. Allen West, former Congressman from South Florida, delivered a breathtaking keynote speech at one of our past Lincoln Dinners that put him on the map as one of the greatest American leaders of our time, as he was launching his bid for Congress. He told us: “As the oldest GOP club in America, it is your duty to carry the torch for the Republican Party and its core principles for the whole nation.”

Our 141st Anniversary Lincoln Dinner is coming up on February 28th, at the famous Antun’s of Queens Village. This year’s annual gala dinner party is very special because we are proud to be honoring extraordinary hometown heroes, businessmen, educators and patriots, for their service and sacrifice to our nation.

Fred Brown, the dynamic chairman of the historic National Black Republican Council will be honored with the 2016 Harvey Moder Lifetime Achievement Award. He began his political career as a Reagan Delegate to the 1980 Republican National Convention, and went on to create the largest and most influential minority Republican organization in America.

Disabled Veteran of the War in Iraq, Capt. James Van Thach from Bellerose, will be presented with the Veteran of the Year Award. After this courageous warrior was hit twice in the line of duty in Iraq, once with an enemy-planted IED and once with a Katyusha rocket, he continued to serve his country while sustaining debilitating injuries.  He was awarded with the Bronze Star and Purple Heart and today he tours the nation raising awareness about the plight of our Veterans.

Let’s join together with our fellow patriots, Republican candidates and elected officials, and celebrate the achievements of these and other hometown heroes at the glorious Lincoln Dinner of 2016!
