Letter from J.C. Polanco for Public Advocate

1743 Williamsbridge Road
Bronx, NY 10461

Dear Friend:

Earlier this spring, New York City’s political leaders decided to participate in a parade that was honoring a convicted terrorist, Oscar Lopez Rivera. This was the last straw for me to sit out another election without giving a voice to all of us who oppose such a radical left-wing agenda.

After meeting with countless civic and political leaders across New York City and sharing my experiences as an educator, commissioner of elections, attorney, and regional director for the State Assembly and discussing my vision to make New York City a fantastic place to live, work and raise a family, I successfully secured the support of the Republican, Independence and Reform parties to be their candidate for New York City Public Advocate.

The Public Advocate position is one that is very important to the lives on New Yorkers. As the city’s ombudsman, the role

is one of a watchdog over our municipal government, assuring that it is working in the best interest of all New Yorkers. As the next Public Advocate, I will focus on the issues we care about.

End corruption in City Hall. We will do this by ending pay-to-play. Sunlight is the best disinfectant and exposing who is donating to what elected officials and what they are getting in return will reduce the pay-to-play culture in City Hall.

Fight against putting jails in our backyards. I will lead an effort to fix Rikers. Currently the radical left in our city has developed an agenda to close Rikers Correctional Facility and replace it with neighborhood jails. With JC Polanco as the NYC Public Advocate, I will work tirelessly to stop this madness. The last thing I want out kids to see on their way to school is a jail.

Expand charter schools and school choice. With over 100,000 children waiting eagerly for an opportunity to succeed at a charter school, it is a shame that our politicians are in the pockets of the teachers unions and consistently fight against our kids.

Protect our most vulnerable from abuse. Many children are abused or killed because of the incompetence at the

Administration for Children’s Services (ACS). As Public Advocate, I will appoint a Deputy Public Advocate for Children’s Services. This deputy’s role would be to lead a reform of this agency and assure accountability for the safety of our kids at ACS.

Stop MTA fare increases and improve public transportation. Working families continue to pay higher fares to use unreliable public transportation. I will work with MTA Chairman Joe Lhota (who we all know SHOULD have been elected in 2013) to stand up against fare increases and work to use the thousands of unused rails and expand waterway transportation via ferry service across the City to ease congestion.

Give NYCHA residents a shot at the American Dream.  Too many families are stuck in public housing without a legitimate shot at the American Dream of home ownership. I will work tirelessly to get qualified families the chance to own their own units. Home ownership will help reduce crime in many public housing developments and change the lives of many of our hardworking New Yorkers.

Taking this message across the City to millions of voters is expensive. Fortunately, New York City has a matching funds program that allows us to augment our resources up to six to one but only if we meet certain thresholds. In order to participate in the Campaign Finance Board debates and to receive the matching funds that Democrats across the city benefit from, I will need at least 500 donors and raise a minimum of $125,000.

In order to meet the threshold, I will need your support in ending the Far Left’s crippling monopoly in our city. Your contribution of $25, $50, $100, $175, $250 or up to $4,950 will help get our message out to millions of New Yorkers. Our goal is to raise $100,000 by the August filing period.  Can I count on your support?

Respectfully,

Juan Carlos Polanco
